The S&P 500 rose for a fifth consecutive day on more good inflation news that has all but confirmed the Fed will begin lowering short-term rates at its next meeting in September. The Consumer Price Index (CPI) increased at the expected 0.2% for the month of July and fell below 3% on an annualized basis for the first time since 2021. I'd call that meaningful progress from the 9.1% peak in June 2022. The core rate, which excludes food and energy, was also up 0.2% and ticked down to a 3.2% annualized rate.
