The expression ‘making fashion for real women’ has been so exploited it’s almost lost its meaning. But Spanish designer Moisés Nieto is determined to rescue the term’s essence with every new collection. “For this one,” Nieto said, “I have focused on the aesthetics of the daily grind, something that Ramón Masats did a lot through his photography, especially during the postwar era, when clothing didn’t really evolve much and orbited around utility and functionality.” Those are two words that have become familiar terms for the fashion industry this year; in this designer’s case, they have proven themselves not just appealing but also highly profitable. “I have been really lucky despite the horrendous circumstances. During the pandemic, we managed to increase our online sales by 300%,” he said.
